Chips from the chippy

Just had a gorgeous bag of chips from the chippy, but as I munched my way through them, I came to the chips that had been underneath and so had missed the expertly applied deluge of salt and vinegar that the girl (who looked about 10) in the chippy had put on me chips.

I put some salt and vinegar on these ones myself, but they didn’t taste as good then. So I left the rest for me dad. Yer cannae say I’m nae generous, eh.

Why do chips taste crap when you put the salt and vinegar on yourself? Do they use special chip shop salt and vinegar? Do they study for NVQs in Application of Seasonings at night school or something? (don’t be silly Mary, they work in the chippy at night so they can’t go to night school.)

I’m stumped.
