The Week of Amazing Gigs
Gigs are like buses with me - none for ages, then 4 turn up at once.
Not only did I have the pleasure of seeing The Go! Team @ KOKO’s in Camden on Friday night (who were absolutely flipping wicked), I also got to see The Wrens, not once, twice, but three times. They were TRULY AMAZING.
Please don’t think me a obsessional music groupie, but I did wait 9 years for them to come over, and hot on the heels of the spectacular shows they played last October, they came back for a little UK tour this week and I managed to catch 3 out of their 4 shows. I just wasn’t obsessed enough to drive to Hull.
I wrote a review of the Birmingham show and posted it on the music website, Drowned in Sound - click here to read it:

And finally, from the ULU gig, a pic of myself with an old high school friend playing percussion by beating the crap out of the floor with drumsticks on the amazing song, ‘Boys, You Won’t’ (pic courtesy of James Adam):

The support band for The Wrens were The Favours. I like them a lot and would recommend you check out their website. Their friend Steve Middler also took some beautiful black & white pics of The Wrens, including this one. If you zoom in, I do look like I’ve been possessed by the alien oil from The X-Files as I’ve got some freaky ‘black holes for eyes’ thing going on.
What am I gonna do with myself next week when there’s no Wrens shows to go to…
