My boyfriend Craig sometimes phones me late at night when I am asleep and I try to have conversations with him while still in a deep sleep.

Sometimes I’ll wake up eventually, sometimes I talk a bit of nonsense to him before falling asleep again and then remember the next morning what I said.

However, this morning, he emailed me a transcript of a conversation that we apparently had last night, and I don’t remember this one happening at all…

11.50pm, Thursday 28 September

Mary’s phone: RING RING
Mary: …Hello
Craig: Hi it’s me.
PAUSE
C: Sorry for waking you up.
M: You didn’t wake me up…I was…(GIBBERISH)…the line.
C: Okay.
PAUSE
C: You sound like you were sleeping
M: I wasn’t asleep
C: What are you doing?
M: I’m looking at my pillow
C: What’s on your pillow?
M: A butterfly
C: A butterfly?
M: Yes…I’m going to go now
M: HANGS UP
