Animals are in everything

As a vegan, I try to avoid foods that have animal products in them. Some foods are safe, and some foods require a little label reading by myself. Bread is normally one of the safe ones - as long as I avoid the long-life breads, and the brioche and some Jewish breads (which tend to have bits of egg or milk in them) - then I’m normally okay.

Or not. According to this blog posting on a BBC website, some bread manufacturers are now putting phospholipase - which is derived from pigs pancreas - into the mixture.

I don’t think people realise just how much processed food contains animal stuff in it. It’s like some kind of weird obsession. Part of me just wants to shout, “Pack it in and leave the animals alone, there’s plenty to eat without eating them, or putting bits of them in other foods!” - and besides, what’s wrong with the classic bread recipe? Flour, water, salt, yeast - knead it, heat it, eat it…all done.
