Good Noise: Volume 11

My top 5 musical picks for this week are:

1) Jason Harwell is a wee whippersnapper of a Floridan lad who writes great alt-folk tunes with a hint of Cake about them. The band, not the tasty food. Anyway, just listen:
Jason Harwell - Wake Up: click here to listen

2) UK neo funk (fused with gorgeous vocals that’s very easy on the ears) from this ensemble, who have toured with The James Taylor Quartet and headlined a sellout show at London’s Jazz Cafe. This track is actually available as a free download on their homepage, so you can listen AND take away:
Kanopus - State of Unrest: www.kanopus.co.uk

3) Beautifully constructed d’n'b beats from this Midlands based artist - I love this song a lot. And anyone who knows me well knows how patriotic I am about my home region, so OF COURSE I’m going to big this guy up, cos he’s a fellow Midlander:
Blueleaf - Oscid: www.myspace.com/blueleafmusic

4) You’ll like this song instantly, a three minute blast of pop-punk. The guy sounds quite American when he sings, but Rosalita are actually from the sleepy, leafy, fen-like world of Suffolk - Ipswich, to be exact. And anyone who cites Devo and The Stranglers as their musical influences gets the thumbs up from me. Say hurrah for jerky indie pop:
Rosalita - Manga Girl: www.myspace.com/rosalitaband

5) I just love the main melody of this song, which like an accent, you could probably use to tell where his musical home is….yes, that’s right, home of trip-hop, Bristol. System Vertigo was one of the first artists I got into when I started working at Pulse Rated and the guy (Jimmy) is really sweet and friendly, so if you like his music, tell him so, he’s sure to write back with something nice:
