Good Noise: Volume 20
It’s amazing how much more difficult it is to update your blog when you have little/no internet access at home. Much as I like to compile Good Noise, at the moment it means staying late at work to do it and as I spend 7 hours a day tap-tap-tapping on a computer, I like to minimise my weekday computer usage wherever possible. But anyway, I’m sacrificing half my lunchtime to write this up so I hope you like.
1) A New York based indie band whose sound reminds me a bit of The Postal Service. I don’t know a whole lot about them, but I really like this song, and their website looks quite classy, so I think I’ll be checking it out again soon:
The Station Myth - Digger: www.thestationmyth.com/pages/downloads.htm
2) This track borrows quite heavily from the sounds of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, which is no bad thing - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all ‘dat. I thought this band were American but their myspace says London, so I might go seek them out live as I reckon they’d be good:
SchwaB - Hellth at Gordon’s: www.myspace.com/schwabonthefloor
3) An up-n-coming American female artist who tours relentlessly with her backing band - tours in the Middle East performing for US troops, loads of dates in the East Coast area, and Niki and her band have just scored the opening slot for metallers Puddle of Mudd at the Food Lion Speed Street Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina, this weekend. Her name is Niki Barr, she rocks, and I’d love to see her live. The track i’m recommending is available on the navigation bar on the left-hand side of the page:

4) A band I’ve loved for years, who have apparently reformed…though how they’re going to manager without the lead singer, Shannon Hoon (who died of a drugs overdose in the mid 90s) I’m not entirely sure. Quirky rock and gorgeous vocals from a band who went against the grain when their grunge compatriots all did the same thing - I love contrariness:
Blind Melon - 2×4: www.myspace.com/blindmelon
5) A band I got into when working at Pulse Rated - a Norwich collective called Def Tex, who are releasing their debut album on Son Records on 4th June. You’ll be bouncing to this one, full of beats, scratches, and noises, and bass:
