Good Noise: Volume 23

It’s amazing how much more difficult it is to update your blog when you have a life - ahaha, ha, ha, hmmm….Much as I like to compile Good Noise, at the moment it means staying late at work to do it and as I spend 7 hours a day tap-tap-tapping on a computer, I like to minimise my weekday computer usage wherever possible. But anyway, I’m sacrificing half my lunchtime to write this up so I hope you like. This week’s edition is a mixture of old and new tunes that I dig.

1) A classic piece of deep-deep sounds from Mr Size, who won the 1997 Mercury Music Prize for his groundbreaking album, ‘New Forms’. Well, I don’t know if it WAS groundbreaking as I’m not thoroughly versed in drum ‘n’ bass, but some people said it was, and I trust ‘em. This is one of my favourite songs off that album:

2) The latest batch of NME darlings have dove into my worldview with some of their tracks piercing my rapidly aging ears…..oooh I do like this song, which is one of their latest singles. The vocalising in the song as a whole is great and it’s bursting with great melodies throughout. I guess it also seems that I like it when boys sing in high voices….:

3) STOP PRESS: I previously wrote that the Klaxons had covered the second tune in this edition of Good Noise - ‘You’re Not Alone’ by Olive, and they haven’t. They’ve *actually* covered ‘Not Over Yet’ by Grace…duh-oh-duh or what. I was obviously in some daydream about classic 90s tunes when I wrote this and put the wrong song down. Anyway, the next song is just a classic 90s tune that I remembered the other day…probably off the back of hearing the Klaxons doing a 90s dance classic…mmm, 90s dance makes me think of being 14, buying dance anthem compilations, drinking cider, and stumbling around in the dark giggling with my mates….oh, the good ol’ days, eh?:

4) I don’t know a whole lot about this outfit - I think it’s a one-man setup, but the sound of this blissed-out track is just GORGEOUS - another favourite 90s track of mine. Simple but stirring melodies:

5) This band have previously featured on Good Noise but under their old moniker of Low Sparks. The boys have now rebranded to The Brute Chorus, and while I’m still a little bit unsure about the new name, I am still sure that they produce quality art-pop tunes with a spark and a heart and plenty of passion. They’re headlining the The Living Room Tent at this year’s Secret Garden Party in Huntingdon, Cambs….I saw them play there last year with a friend and they are fabulous live, and the festival itself is like a mini-Glastonbury, so if you missed out on tickets for that big ol’ baby, then go visit the ‘Party instead…:
