Good Noise: Volume 31
I started this last Monday morning and then life got in the way and I never finished it. Anyway, here’s volume 31 just a week late, and if I bust a gut today, I might even get volume 32 published today.
In the meantime, plug in and listen to the five tunes I’ve plucked from my memory, found them on the internet for you to listen to, and I hope you like them as much as I do : )
1) I absolutely *adore* this song…this has GOT to have been used on a film soundtrack somewhere, and if it hasn’t, then someone needs to write a screenplay for this song because it is simply made for the big screen. It’s very haunting and Kill Bill-esque, and makes me want to travel to far off places. This London based downbeat duo release a new album this year on 26th August, check out their MySpace for tracks from that if you’re interested. Oh, and to listen to the song I’ve recommended, you need to skip through the music player at the top of the page to get to the track.

2) Certain songs remind you of certain times…you hear them often and they whack a timestamp on a particular period of your life. I first heard this song on the now defunct Student Broadcast Network, a radio station that operated in Camden and provided a sustainer service to more than 60 student radio stations across the UK. I used to listen to SBN at university quite a lot and this song was on heavy rotation. It’s an excellent floorfiller song with a hypnotic dance-beats feel, I am often found bouncing in my chair to this while I work:

3) Another song that I remember from my SBN listening days, this was a project that Imogen Heap was in a few years ago. As far as I know they only released one album, and never really gained any real notoriety, but that doesn’t stop this being a contemporary blessed-out-trip-pop track that’s rather good:
Frou Frou - Breathe In: www.myspace.com/froufrou
4) I rediscovered this song last weekend when I found some old mp3s on my laptop and decided it was time for a change on my phone’s mp3 player. This song is so wonderful, it’s pop, it’s rock, and it’s in French:

5) A rather talkative guy called Karl made me a compilation tape when I was at college, back in the day when people still made compilation tapes for their friends. This song was on it – along with other fantastic indie tracks that I’ll probably feature in future editions of Good Noise – and it’s very indie-twee, you’ll bob your head from side to side, and think it sounds like the Beatles, but you’ll have to agree, it’s good. My favourite bit is when he says, ‘pow’:
