I’d get an A+ in niceness, for sure
If I was to die tonight, and IF there is such a thing as a heaven or paradise, then methinks after the past 24 hours, I got a 5-star room in there *for sure*. I have been *such* a good Samaritan - look at all the good deeds *I’ve* been doing:
1) Took my slightly blue and depressed flatmate out for food last night when she got a rejection after a job interview. Pizza @ Zizzi on Chiswick High Road put a smile on her face again.
2) Helped a confused, non-English speaking, Spanish delivery man by the name of Pablo find out just exactly *where* he was supposed to be delivering some boxes at work today. I could’ve just left him to fend for himself, but I couldn’t bear to. It would be like kicking a kitten. The man didn’t have a clue. We found his destination eventually after I consulted various people, made phonecalls, and did a few laps of the ground floor of the building.
3) Re-directed a confused (yet rather snooty) woman calling from Macclesfield Library to the BBC switchboard. Seems a BBC runner had left a message trying to track down a poem about Sir Gawain and the Green Knight on this woman’s phone, but had given her the number for my colleague in UKTV Programme Planning instead. My company is an old BBC department so this could account for the similiarity in phone numbers. I nearly hung up as this rather plaintive northern woman asked to speak to a girl called Katie, then said, ‘oh, but she’s left a message about wanting a poem about Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’. I thought it could be a prank call, but it actually wasn’t. I emailed Katie the runner afterwards and told her that it *can* be confusing when you call Macclesfield Library and leave them the number for UKTV Programme Planning, when they actually really need to speak to the BBC.
4) Returned to work after starting the cycle home @ 5.15 this evening to make a call to a friend from Tae Kwon Do. My Tae Kwon Do instructor had phoned me pleading with me to speak some words of encouragement and wisdom to a fellow student, who was getting so nervous about his grading this evening that he had backed out. A 10-minute phone call and many soothing words later, he agreed that he should do the grading. I’ve been a bag of nerves at gradings many times myself, so I know exactly how he felt. I’ve never gone so far as to vomit though before a grading, so he’s one up on me. I’m sure he’s passed though : )
So, I am lovely, wouldn’t you agree? All who say ‘yay’, buy me vegan chocolate and post it to me : )
