Hell yes, they skate
Just got back from another great night watching some UK flat-track all-female roller derby action in Birmingham : )

This time it was ‘Capital Punishment’ - where Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames pitted themselves against the London Rollergirls all-star team, known as London Brawling. Yep, roller derby is puntastic all the way, from the girls’ monikers to the event and team names : )
The capital grrls meted out some fierce punishment tonight to the ‘Dames…can’t remember final scores, but it was something like 274 - 23.
If you’re in the UK, female, 18 or over, and fancy hitting the track and becoming a rollergirl, then here is a list of the UK roller derby teams:
Aberdeen Aces
Auld Reekie Roller Girls (Edinburgh)
Bedford Bandits Roller Derby
Brighton Roller Derby
Birmingham Blitz Derby Dames
Central City Rollergirls (Birmingham)
Glasgow Roller Girls
Leeds Roller Dolls
London Rollergirls
London Rockin Rollers
Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls
Middlesbrough Milk Rollers
Rainy City Roller Girls (Manchester)
Romsey Town Rollerbillies (Cambridge)
Sheffield Steel Roller Girls
Triple Sword Roller Girls (Essex)
Windsor Rollergirls
It’s not just for the girls, by the way. In America, the home of roller derby, they have all-male teams, all-female teams, and mixed teams. So, with that in mind, the first men’s UK roller derby team - M.U.R.D.A. - has started, and they hope to debut in 2009. So if you’re a boy who fancies a flirt with some fast and furious skating action, go check out M.U.R.D.A’s website.
What are you waiting for, get skating!
